Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward gets security Robot

Residents of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward have noticed a new security presence patrolling the streets—a robot named “Spunky.”

Spunky, a K-5 robot created by Knightscope, patrols the sidewalks in front of Station 464 & 496 Apartments on Boulevard NE, a busy area that has seen a rise in crime.

Weighing over 400 pounds and standing 5’6″, Spunky uses five sensors to navigate, record its surroundings, and notify police of any issues.

Although it interacts with people, it’s not designed for conversation like Siri or Alexa, Atlanta News First has reported.

After just a month on duty, residents, including Brenda, who lives nearby, feel safer and have given Spunky positive reviews.
