U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar secured a decisive victory in the Democratic primary for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, defeating Don Samuels by 13 percentage points in a rematch of their close 2022 race.
Omar, in her third term, received 56.2% of the vote compared to Samuels’ 42.9%, according to unofficial results.
This district, known for its strong Democratic leaning, is expected to easily re-elect Omar in the fall, CBS News has reported.
Despite a more robust campaign effort by Samuels this time, Omar’s increased focus and organizing efforts helped her widen the margin of victory.
