Republican Royce White has won the Minnesota primary election, defeating Joe Fraser with 38% of the vote.

\White, a former NBA player and Minneapolis native, will now face incumbent Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar in the November election.

White, who aims to attract younger and minority voters to the GOP, secured the party’s nomination despite Fraser’s initial frontrunner status and support from several establishment Republicans, CBS News has reported.

White’s victory is seen as a reflection of ongoing tensions within the Minnesota Republican Party.
