In 2016, then-U.S. Representative Tim Walz did not correct a CSPAN host who incorrectly stated that he had served in Afghanistan, despite having never been deployed there.
This incident, among others, has drawn criticism from some Republicans, including accusations of “stolen valor” from his opponent, Sen. J.D. Vance, since Walz was chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate.
Walz has strongly defended his military service, emphasizing his pride in serving the country.
Although there is no evidence of stolen valor, a review of past interviews and records shows that inaccuracies about Walz’s military service have occasionally gone uncorrected, leading to confusion and criticism over the years, ABC News has reported.
Despite this, Walz remains committed to advocating for veterans and military families.
