A deputy in Paulding County, Georgia, was killed on Saturday evening while responding to a domestic dispute, marking the first line-of-duty death for the local sheriff’s office.
Deputy Brandon Cunningham, 30, and another deputy were ambushed by gunfire upon arriving at the scene.
Cunningham was fatally shot, and the female victim involved in the dispute was also shot and hospitalized in stable condition.
The suspected shooter was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Cunningham, who joined the sheriff’s office in 2020, leaves behind two children, NBC News has reported.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
