Ukraine’s offensive derails secret efforts for partial cease-fire with Russia, officials say

Ukraine and Russia were set to engage in indirect talks in Doha, mediated by Qatar, to negotiate an agreement halting strikes on energy and power infrastructure, effectively offering a partial cease-fire.

However, these discussions were disrupted by Ukraine’s unexpected incursion into Russia’s Kursk region.

The planned summit, which had not been previously reported, was postponed, with a video conference now scheduled for August 22, the APA has reported.

The Ukrainian presidential office cited the situation in the Middle East as the reason for the delay, and the Biden administration reiterated that any cease-fire terms are for Ukraine to decide.
