Former congressman George Santos, who admitted to fabricating key elements of his background, pleaded guilty to two felony fraud charges on Monday.
Santos was facing a 23-count indictment, including wire fraud and identity theft. He acknowledged defrauding donors, stealing identities, and lying about his financial situation.
As part of a plea deal, Santos admitted to all the conduct he was charged with and agreed to pay restitution and forfeiture.
He could face 6 to 8 years in prison, with sentencing set for February 7, NBC News has reported.
Santos was expelled from Congress earlier this month following a House Ethics report that found substantial evidence of his illegal activities.
