This new “Nuclear Employment Guidance” prepares the U.S. for potential simultaneous nuclear challenges from China, Russia, and North Korea.

The plan reflects concerns that China’s nuclear capabilities could rival those of the U.S. and Russia within a decade.

Although the strategy remains secret, officials have hinted at the change, noting the need to deter multiple nuclear-armed adversaries, the New York Times has reported.

The updated strategy responds to growing military cooperation between Russia and China and the increased complexity of the global nuclear landscape.
