House Republicans are stepping back from efforts to impeach President Joe Biden, despite releasing a nearly 300-page report accusing him of “impeachable conduct.”
Although the investigation continues, GOP leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson and key committee heads, have not pushed for an impeachment vote, signaling a lack of support within their slim majority.
Many Republicans admit they don’t have the votes needed for impeachment, with centrists skeptical of clear evidence linking Biden to a crime.
Instead, the party is considering other actions, such as criminal referrals for Biden’s family members and tightening financial disclosure laws, Politico has reported.
The report’s release coincides with shifting political focus as Republicans turn their attention to Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, following Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race.
