Michigan Sheriff Mike Murphy is under investigation by the state Bureau of Elections for possibly violating the Michigan Campaign Finance Act after hosting a campaign event for former President Donald Trump at his department’s facility.
The investigation was triggered by complaints that public resources, such as sheriff’s office vehicles, were used to support a political candidate.
The event, closed to the public, featured Trump speaking alongside law enforcement and campaign banners.
Murphy, who has faced similar allegations before, denies any violation and welcomes the investigation, Michigan Live has reported.
The Bureau of Elections will determine whether the use of the vehicles constituted a breach of the law.
