ISIS prisoners at a Russian penal colony in the Volgograd region have staged a violent mutiny, resulting in the deaths of several prison guards and the taking of hostages.
The mutiny occurred during a disciplinary meeting at the IK-19 prison, with the attackers identifying themselves as ISIS members.
At least three guards were killed, and seven others, including the prison head, were seriously injured.
The attackers, believed to be from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, have demanded two million US dollars and a helicopter, although they later denied making such demands.
Security forces and negotiators, including a mullah, are being deployed to the scene, and a state of emergency has been declared, the Express has reported.
Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case in response to the hostage situation.
