Suspect charged with murder and animal cruelty in fatal carjacking of 80-year-old dog walker

Jahmed Kamal Haynes, 48, has been charged with first-degree murder, assault, and animal cruelty after allegedly carjacking and killing 80-year-old Seattle dog walker Ruth Dalton, and stabbing her dog to death.

Haynes reportedly forced Dalton out of her car, ran her over, and later killed her dog in a park. Witnesses tried to help, but Dalton died at the scene.

Haynes, who has a history of violent crimes, was arrested with Dalton’s car keys and a bloodied knife, the Associated Press has reported.

Prosecutors argued that his extensive criminal history makes him a danger to the community, leading the judge to order him held without bail. Haynes is scheduled for arraignment on September 5.
