A woman, Chenoa Nickerson, 33, is missing after a flash flood stranded several hikers in the Grand Canyon’s Havasu Creek area on Thursday.
The flooding occurred around 1:30 p.m., leaving hikers trapped near Beaver Falls.
Rescue efforts began quickly, with a helicopter dispatched by 3 p.m. Nickerson was swept into the creek and is believed to have been carried toward the Colorado River.
Her husband was rescued by rafters, but she remains unaccounted for, CBS News has reported.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, and the Havasupai Tribe has closed the area to hikers until Sunday as evacuations continue.
