Italian authorities have launched a manslaughter investigation into the sinking of a superyacht off the coast of Sicily, which resulted in the deaths of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and six others.
Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio stated that the sinking was not due to the weather but rather the behavior and handling of the crew, though no specific individuals have been named in the investigation.
The British-flagged yacht sank during a storm with 22 people on board.
Seven bodies, including Lynch’s daughter, have been recovered, with speculation that some victims may have been searching for air pockets as the yacht went down, CNN has reported.
The investigation continues to determine culpability.
