Chaos in France after Macron refuses to name prime minister from leftwing coalition

France faces political turmoil after President Emmanuel Macron refused to appoint a prime minister from the leftwing coalition, the New Popular Front (NFP), which won the most seats in the recent parliamentary election.

Macron’s decision, following failed talks to resolve the deadlock in the divided Assemblée Nationale, sparked anger and threats of impeachment from the NFP.

The coalition insists that its candidate, Lucie Castets, should lead the government, while Macron plans further consultations to find a solution, The Guardian has reported.

The leftwing alliance warns of protests and a motion of censure if their candidate is not chosen.
