A 41-year-old man, Joseph Brandon Gerdvil, was arrested after allegedly decapitating his parents and killing their dog in San Juan Capistrano.
Following the crime, Gerdvil sent photos of his bloodied mother to a relative, prompting a 911 call.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they discovered a gruesome scene, including a severed head on the counter.
Gerdvil, who fled in a golf cart, later approached deputies while holding a metal object, leading to his being shot after ignoring commands.
After being wounded, Gerdvil began singing Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You.”
He was booked on two counts of homicide and remains hospitalized, the Los Angeles Times has reported.
The incident is under investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the district attorney’s office.
