Rep. Mike Kelly, chairman of the House task force investigating the July 13 assassination attempt on Donald Trump, criticized the delayed response from law enforcement when gunman Thomas Crooks was first spotted at the Butler Farm Show fairgrounds in Pennsylvania.
Despite snipers identifying Crooks 90 minutes before he opened fire, killing one and injuring two others, they awaited authorization to shoot.
Kelly questioned who was responsible for the decision-making during the incident.
The bipartisan task force, which has subpoena power, is still gathering information and interviewing officials and rally attendees to understand what went wrong, Fox News has reported.
The FBI is investigating Crooks’ motives and whether he acted alone, with no evidence of co-conspirators so far.
