New Taliban law bans women from speaking in public, showing their faces

The Taliban dismissed criticism from the United Nations regarding new vice and virtue laws that further restrict women’s freedoms in Afghanistan, including banning them from showing their faces or speaking in public.

UNAMA chief Roza Otunbayeva expressed concern, calling the laws a “distressing vision” for the country’s future.

The Taliban’s spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, warned against “arrogance” from those unfamiliar with Islamic law and emphasized the Taliban’s commitment to enforcing these rules, the New York Post has reported.

Despite international criticism, including from the Japanese Embassy in Kabul, the Taliban remains steadfast in implementing these restrictions on women and girls.
