A 16-year-old Jamaican teenager, Jahmari Reid, was tragically decapitated by a shark while spearfishing alone on Jamaica’s north coast.
His body was found the next day with his head and left arm missing, near a large tiger shark. J
ahmari had gone spearfishing near his home in Trelawny, east of Montego Bay, but when he didn’t return, a search was launched.
His devastated parents, Michael Reid and Lavern Robinson, expressed their grief, with his father lamenting his son’s passion for spearfishing.
This incident marks the first fatal shark attack in the area in recent history, with local fishermen determined to locate and kill the shark responsible, The Telegraph has reported.
Shark attacks are extremely rare in Jamaica, with only three reported since 1749.
