Authorities in Northwest Indiana are searching for a suspect who randomly stabbed a 14-year-old girl at a baseball field in Lowell.
The attack occurred around 3:45 p.m. as the girl watched her brother’s game.
The suspect, described as a dark-skinned male with long hair, wearing a burgundy top and black shorts, fled into the woods after the stabbing.
The girl’s mother also attempted to intervene and was targeted. Sheriff’s deputies, detectives, and K-9 units are involved in the search.
A butcher-style knife believed to be used in the attack has been recovered. The victim has been treated and released from the hospital, NBC 5 Chicago has reported.
The incident is considered random, and anyone with information is urged to call 911.
