11-year-old boy confessed to killing former Louisiana mayor and his daughter

An 11-year-old boy is in custody after confessing to fatally shooting former Minden, Louisiana, mayor Joe Cornelius Sr., 82, and his daughter, Keisha Miles, 31.

The victims were found Sunday morning in Cornelius’ home with multiple gunshot wounds, and two emptied handguns matching shell casings at the scene were recovered.

The boy, a relative of Cornelius, initially gave a false account but later confessed. His motive remains unclear, and his bond is set at $500,000, NBC News has reported.

Cornelius was a community activist, former City Council member, and interim mayor in 2013. Minden Mayor Nick Cox expressed gratitude for Cornelius’ service to the community.
