Raskin launches probe into closed DOJ investigation of Trump-Egypt ties

House Democrats, led by Rep. Jamie Raskin, have launched an investigation into former President Trump’s alleged acceptance of $10 million from the Egyptian government during his 2016 campaign.

The probe, triggered by a Washington Post report, examines whether Trump’s campaign received the funds in violation of foreign contribution laws and if allies, including then-Attorney General William Barr, obstructed the subsequent investigation.

Raskin has requested documents from Trump about the source of his campaign loan and whether he received money from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, The Hill has reported.

Trump’s campaign denies any wrongdoing, calling the allegations “Fake News.”
