Alaska Democrats have sued the Alaska Division of Elections to remove Eric Hafner, an imprisoned congressional candidate, from the November ballot.
Hafner, serving a 20-year prison sentence in New York for threatening officials, qualified for the ballot after two GOP candidates withdrew from the race.
Democratic leaders argue Hafner, who has never lived in Alaska, violates the residency requirement for congressional candidates, The Washington Examiner has reported.
With incumbent Rep. Mary Peltola facing a tight race, Democrats are seeking a swift court decision to block Hafner’s candidacy.
