The arrest of a former aide to NY governors highlights efforts to root out Chinese agents in the US

The U.S. Department of Justice is cracking down on covert Chinese agents operating in the U.S., targeting efforts by Beijing to influence American politics.

The latest case involves Linda Sun, a former aide to New York governors Kathy Hochul and Andrew Cuomo, accused of secretly acting as an agent for China.

Sun allegedly worked with Chinese consulate officials, discouraging meetings with Taiwanese representatives and influencing positive remarks about China.

In return, Sun and her husband allegedly received favors, including business help and gifts, the Associated Press has reported.

This is part of a broader DOJ effort to counter Chinese espionage and influence operations, which have led to multiple prosecutions of individuals accused of spying and harassment.
