Flash flood hits Vietnam, storm toll rises to 155 dead

A flash flood triggered by Typhoon Yagi swept away Lang Nu hamlet in northern Vietnam, killing 30 people and leaving about 65 missing.

The disaster, caused by water gushing down from a mountain in Lao Cai province, buried the hamlet in mud and debris, with only about a dozen survivors.

The overall death toll from the typhoon and its aftermath has reached 155, with 141 people still missing, the Associated Press has reported.

The typhoon, one of the strongest to hit Vietnam in decades, has caused severe flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage, further fueled by climate change and warmer ocean waters.
