A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Malibu at 7:28 a.m., followed by a 2.8 aftershock and four more ranging from 2.7 to 3.5 in the next hour, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Initially reported as a 5.1, the quake was centered five miles north of Malibu and seven miles deep. No injuries or significant damage have been reported.
USGS seismologist Lucy Jones noted a rise in magnitude-4 earthquakes in Southern California this year, with 14 so far compared to the average of eight, Deadline has reported.
The quake was felt across Los Angeles, as far south as Irvine. The region continues to experience frequent seismic activity amid ongoing wildfires.
