Over 50 people were successfully airlifted from the roof of Unicoi County Hospital in eastern Tennessee on Friday after floodwaters from the remnants of Hurricane Helene engulfed the facility.
The Tennessee National Guard, using three Blackhawk helicopters, and Virginia State Police conducted the rescue.
Patients and staff were taken to a local high school. Earlier attempts to evacuate by ambulance and boat failed due to rapidly rising water from the Nolichucky River, CBS News has reported.
Hurricane Helene, which made landfall as a Category 4 storm, has caused deadly flooding across multiple states.
