Jimmy Carter celebrates 100th birthday in his hometown of Plains

Jimmy Carter celebrated his 100th birthday on October 1, becoming the first U.S. president to reach this milestone.

Known for his rise from a peanut farmer to a Nobel Peace Prize-winning humanitarian, Carter spent the last 19 months in hospice care in Plains, Georgia.

He served as the 39th president from 1977 to 1981 and co-founded The Carter Center in 1982 to promote peace and health worldwide.

Family members reflected on his life, with his grandson noting the significance of his century-long contributions.

President Biden praised Carter as a moral force, and various celebrations, including a concert and Habitat for Humanity projects, were held in his honor, PBS News has reported.

Carter expressed excitement about voting in the upcoming election for Vice President Kamala Harris.
