In a Sunday interview, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton criticized special counsel Jack Smith’s recent filing in the election interference case against former President Trump, calling it “a temper tantrum from a deranged fanatic.”
Cotton accused Smith of professional misconduct for submitting what he termed “unverified hearsay” and suggested that the timing, just before the election, was questionable.
The filing, which labeled Trump’s actions on January 6 as a “private criminal effort,” included an alleged comment from Trump, The Hill has reported.
Trump’s spokesperson labeled the filing as “falsehood-ridden” and part of a “partisan witch hunt.” Cotton demanded an investigation into Smith’s conduct.
