Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is reportedly avoiding calls from Vice President Kamala Harris regarding recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene, which recently impacted the state.
A DeSantis aide claimed Harris’ outreach seemed “political,” and the governor has not spoken to President Joe Biden, although Biden attempted to contact him last week while surveying storm damage.
DeSantis has been in touch with FEMA Director Deanne Criswell instead.
Following Hurricane Helene, which caused significant damage in north Florida, DeSantis stated that Florida had the situation “handled” and suggested that federal focus should shift to North Carolina.
In contrast, governors from other states, including Georgia’s Brian Kemp and South Carolina’s Henry McMaster, praised the federal response.
As the state braces for Hurricane Milton, expected to make landfall on Wednesday, there have been no communications from Biden regarding this storm, as reported by NBC News.
Meanwhile, former President Trump has publicly discussed Hurricane Helene and made remarks about Harris’ storm briefings.
