Israeli strike kills at least 28 Palestinians at school in central Gaza, Red Crescent says

An Israeli airstrike on a school-turned-shelter in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, killed at least 28 people and injured 54, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society.

The school housed displaced civilians, mostly women and children.

The Israeli military claimed it targeted a Hamas command center inside the school, though this could not be independently verified.

Harrowing footage showed severely injured children being rescued, CNN has reported.

This strike follows other recent attacks on schools in Gaza, as Israel continues its military operations, which have led to over 42,000 deaths in the ongoing conflict.
