Ukrainian reporter died in Russian detention, Kyiv says

Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchyna, who was captured by Russian forces while reporting from occupied eastern Ukraine, has died in Russian detention, Ukrainian officials confirmed.

Roshchyna, 27, disappeared in August 2023 and was later confirmed to be in Russian custody. The circumstances of her death are still unclear.

Reporters Without Borders expressed shock and condolences, while Russian media reported she died while being transferred to Moscow, The Guardian has reported.

Roshchyna, a freelancer for independent outlets, was awarded the Courage in Journalism award in 2022 for her work in eastern Ukraine.
