Early Saturday, a vehicle fleeing a Philadelphia hospital after dropping off a gunshot victim struck three nurses who were attempting to treat the patient.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. at Penn Presbyterian Hospital when the silver Jeep Cherokee hit the nurses in the ambulance bay.
One nurse, 36, is in critical condition with facial injuries and internal bleeding, while a 37-year-old and a 51-year-old nurse are in stable condition with head and back injuries.
The shooting victim, who arrived with multiple gunshot wounds, may have sustained a head injury in the hit-and-run.
Hospital officials described the incident as “devastating” and emphasized their commitment to patient care, while the police investigate both the crash and the earlier shooting, the Associated Press reported.
Philadelphia City Council member Jamie Gauthier condemned the attack on the nurses, highlighting their dedication to healing amid trauma.
