Government officials in North Carolina were evacuated due to threats from armed civilians claiming they were “hunting” FEMA workers during hurricane relief efforts.
On Saturday, National Guard troops reported encountering militia members in Rutherford County, prompting the evacuation of emergency personnel.
Similar threats in Ashe County delayed FEMA operations on Sunday.
In North Carolina, some residents believe that FEMA is not providing adequate assistance in the wake of recent hurricanes.
These individuals accuse the agency of deliberately withholding disaster relief, with some claims fueled by political figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene.
She and others have suggested that FEMA is part of a broader conspiracy, including allegations of weather manipulation and favoritism against certain political groups, the Daily Beast has reported.
Despite these beliefs, FEMA, along with the Biden administration and mainstream media, maintain that the agency is actively working to assist affected communities.
FEMA has set up a “rumor control” page to counter what they claim is misinformation and clarify the support being offered.
The administration has consistently emphasized that FEMA’s role is to provide necessary relief, regardless of political affiliation, and that claims to the contrary are baseless disinformation.
