Man’s death initially reported as bear attack investigated as ‘vicious’ homicide

Montana authorities are now investigating the death of Dustin Mitchell Kjersem, 35, as a homicide after it was initially reported as a bear attack.

Kjersem was found dead in a tent near Moose Creek, but a wildlife expert found no signs of bear activity. An autopsy revealed Kjersem died from multiple chop wounds.

He was last seen on October 10, leaving for a camping trip but never met with a friend as planned, NBC News has reported.

No arrests have been made, and authorities are urging anyone with information or camera footage from the area to contact them.
