Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has attempted to repair his relationship with former President Trump, but recent comments reveal lingering animosity from McConnell toward Trump after the 2020 election.
In a new biography, McConnell described Trump as “stupid,” “ill-tempered,” and a “narcissist,” suggesting broader discontent within the GOP regarding Trump.
This indicates potential challenges for GOP senators in collaborating with Trump if he is re-elected. Despite McConnell’s past criticisms, many Republican senators have publicly pledged loyalty to Trump.
However, there are still significant tensions, especially with senators who previously opposed Trump, like Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, The Hill has reported.
McConnell’s comments may exacerbate distrust between Trump and some Senate Republicans, impacting future collaboration if he returns to the White House.
