A ferry dock collapse on Georgia’s Sapelo Island during a cultural festival left seven dead and six critically injured.
The victims, aged 70 to 93, were attending a celebration of the island’s Gullah-Geechee community when the gangway collapsed, plunging at least 20 people into the water.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause.
President Biden and other officials expressed condolences, while the Gullah-Geechee community mourns the tragedy during Cultural Heritage Awareness Month, CNN has reported.
The ferry service is set to resume operations Monday.
