Samuel Richard Ruthstrom, dubbed the “Penguin Bandit” for his distinctive walk, was sentenced to over 13 years in federal prison for robbing four Denver-area banks and attempting a fifth.
Ruthstrom, 42, reached a plea deal after robbing banks in early 2023.
He was sentenced to 160 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay restitution.
Ruthstrom’s robberies were characterized by ski masks and threatening notes demanding money, NBC News has reported.
He was arrested after a tip linked him to the crimes, aided by surveillance footage and phone records.
