Riots Rock Lisbon After Police Shoot Dead Black Man

Portuguese authorities arrested three people following a second night of unrest in Lisbon after police shot and killed Odair Moniz, a 43-year-old man from Cape Verde.

The violence, involving young rioters from poorer neighborhoods, saw 60 incidents, including two officers injured and several vehicles burned.

Police said Moniz attacked officers with a bladed weapon, but anti-racism group SOS Racisme questioned this account, linking the incident to broader concerns of police brutality, Barron’s has reported.
