Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called his Liberal Party “united” after a meeting where 24 caucus members urged him to resign.
During the three-hour session, around 30 out of 50 speakers suggested Trudeau should step down, citing his personality as a distraction despite agreeing with his policies.
Some MPs worry that Trudeau’s leadership is weakening the party’s chances in the next election, especially with Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre leading in polls, Politico has reported.
Trudeau’s team insists he remains the best candidate, while further discussions about his leadership are expected soon.
