Ballots damaged after USPS mailbox lit on fire in Phoenix

A suspect has been arrested after a USPS mailbox was set on fire in Phoenix, damaging ballots and other mail.

The fire, extinguished by the Phoenix Fire Department, initially appeared to have damaged about 20 ballots, but officials later estimated only five ballots were likely destroyed, with the count still under review.

Police identified 35-year-old Dieter Klofkorn as the suspect; he allegedly admitted to the arson, claiming no political motive, ABC News has reported.

Klofkorn was charged with felony arson and had an outstanding warrant from an unrelated case.
