DA Recommends Menendez Brothers Get Out Of Prison

Prosecutors recommended resentencing Erik and Lyle Menendez for the 1989 murders of their parents, opening a possible path to freedom after 34 years in prison.

Los Angeles DA George Gascón suggested a 50-years-to-life sentence, making the brothers immediately eligible for parole due to their young age at the time of the crime.

This recommendation requires judicial approval and parole board consent.

Family members, citing awareness of sexual abuse, support their release, while some relatives, like Kitty Menendez’s brother, oppose it, believing the original life sentences fit the crime, the Associated Press has reported.

A reentry plan has been prepared should the brothers be released.
