The Justice Department reached a $102 million settlement with Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited, the companies responsible for a container ship that collided with Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge in March, killing six construction workers.
The settlement resolves claims of negligence in the ship’s maintenance, which allegedly led to the crash. Funds will cover federal cleanup costs but exclude bridge reconstruction.
Baltimore and victims’ families have filed additional claims, and the FBI is investigating a possible failure to report prior issues, CNN has reported.
The Key Bridge served 30,000 motorists daily and the Port of Baltimore has since reopened.
