In a recent interview, former President Trump criticized special counsel Jack Smith, calling him “mentally deranged” and suggesting he be “thrown out of the country.”
Trump reiterated his disapproval of Smith, appointed in 2022 by Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate Trump’s handling of classified documents and alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Trump also vowed to fire Smith if reelected.
His legal team has asked Judge Tanya Chutkan to dismiss the election subversion case, claiming Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional, The Hill has reported.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
