Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military sites early Saturday, claiming retaliation for recent ballistic missile attacks from Iran.

Explosions were reported in Tehran, though Iran reported only “limited damage.”

This marks Israel’s first open military action against Iran, heightening regional tensions amid ongoing conflicts with Iranian-backed groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.

Israel targeted missile manufacturing sites, surface-to-air missiles, and other military facilities, while refraining from hitting nuclear or oil installations due to U.S. diplomatic efforts, the Associated Press has reported.

The U.S. warned against further escalation, urging both sides to avoid additional strikes.
