Over 200 unqualified Texas educators had someone else take their exams in cheating scandal

Five individuals in Texas have been charged in connection with an illegal scheme that falsely certified over 200 unqualified teachers, generating more than $1 million for the plot’s leader, Vincent Grayson, 57, the head boys basketball coach at Booker T. Washington High School.

Participants allegedly paid $2,500 for proxies to take certification tests at two Houston testing centers, where a proctor was bribed to facilitate swaps.

The scheme, traced back to May 2020 during the COVID pandemic, involved over 400 fraudulent exams, NBC News has reported.

Grayson and four accomplices face two felony counts each for organized criminal activity, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
