Armed group kidnaps military personnel and seizes base in central Bolivia, military says

An armed group seized a military post in central Bolivia, kidnapping personnel and taking weapons, the Bolivian military reported.

President Luis Arce claimed the group is linked to former president Evo Morales, though no evidence was provided.

The military called for the group’s peaceful exit, labeling the takeover as “treason.”

This incident adds to recent tensions as Morales and Arce clash ahead of the 2025 election, with Morales’ supporters blocking highways and causing shortages in response to human trafficking charges against him, CNN has reported.

Both sides have also exchanged accusations over a recent altercation involving Morales’ vehicle and Bolivian police.
