A 63-year-old man was arrested in connection with the theft of over 24 tons of artisanal cheddar, valued at more than $390,000, from Neal’s Yard Dairy in London.
The cheese, stolen on October 21, was fraudulently ordered by someone posing as a distributor for a major French retailer.
Neal’s Yard Dairy paid their suppliers despite the theft, and British chef Jamie Oliver urged the public to watch for unusually large quantities of premium cheddar on the black market, NBC News has reported.
The investigation remains ongoing as police search for the stolen cheese.
