Daren Christopher Abbey, 41, has been charged with the murder of 35-year-old Dustin Kjersem, whom he encountered at a campsite near Big Sky, Montana.
Abbey, a stranger to Kjersem, allegedly accepted Kjersem’s hospitality before fatally attacking him with a piece of wood, a screwdriver, and an ax.
Kjersem, planning to camp with his girlfriend, was found dead on October 12 after he failed to meet her.
Abbey, who confessed to the killing, was linked to the scene through DNA on a beer can, NBC News has reported.
He remains in custody without bond, while investigators continue to seek a motive.
