Tropical Storm Kong-rey threatens Shanghai and China’s coast after hitting Taiwan as a typhoon

Typhoon Kong-rey weakened to a tropical storm and was expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Shanghai and China’s east coast on Friday.

After crossing Taiwan on Thursday, the storm caused landslides, toppled trees, and injured over 500 people, with two fatalities reported.

Authorities in Taiwan located a missing Czech couple, who were safe.

Kong-rey is forecast to affect Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Shanghai with up to 12 centimeters of rain, The Hill has reported.

In preparation, ferry routes were suspended in Zhejiang and Fujian, and Taiwan resumed most public services after the storm’s passage.
